Pharmaceutical and Medical Technology Working Group Meeting

On 9 July 2021, the EuroCham Pharmaceutical and Medical Technology Working Group convened a meeting that was presided by Harimurti Listianto (Deputy Head) and Wulaning Putri (Deputy Head) to discuss several topics, namely:

  1. COVID Donation in partnership with the Ministry of Health. EuroCham together with its members are committed to support the government's efforts to control the spread of COVID-19. At the time of the meeting, it was reported that five of EuroCham's member companies have contributed to the effort, namely BASF, Danone, Frisian Flag, and Unilever. These companies contributed materials needed by the Wisma Haji Emergency (HCU) Hospital in Pondok Gede, Jakarta. The donated materials needed for the fight against COVID included Beds, Oxygen tanks, nutrition and other associated materials needed by the Emergency Hospitals, as well as Support and Personal Protective Equipment for Medical Workers and patients, and Support for vaccination. COVID-19 donations are still open to EuroCham members who would like to support.
  2. Medical device product issue. In this regard, a joint chambers letter were delivered to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment that specifically highlights the issuance of 79 group of medical device products (including 5,462 imported products) that will be removed from the e-catalogue. The results of the advocacy carried out show that there are still 11 products that are still delisted and therefore further advocacy efforts are needed.
  3. Exchange of regulatory updates, specifically related to the recent issuance of the Government Regulation No. 5 of 2021 and related to domestic product references.
  4. The Position Paper 2021. The Working Group also briefly discussed about the annual publication to be held on July 21 via the Zoom Platform.

D’Insights Close-door Meeting with Prof. Wiku Adisasmito on the Government’s Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

On Thursday, 29 July 2021, members of EuroCham’s Executive Board together with the Head and the Deputy Head of the EuroCham Working Groups were invited by D’insights Katadata to attend an off-the-record and insights meeting with Prof. Wiku Adisasmito (Spokesperson for the Government’s National COVID-19 Task Force). Prof. Wiku shared his insights and responded to queries related to the rapidly developing COVID-19 situation in Indonesia throughout the 90-minute session, as well as revealed the background and basis whereby policies pertaining to activity restrictions were introduced to control the pandemic. The session also touched on the challenges and obstacles faced in handling the pandemic from an insider’s perspective. Prof. Wiku also openly answered all questions from participants and EuroCham member companies in attendance, on an off-the-record basis, and under Chatham House Rules.
