Focus Group Discussion on Supervision of Drugs and Food that are Distributed Online

On 1 July 2020, EuroCham was invited to attend a Focus Group Discussion organized by the National Agency for Food and Drug Control (BPOM). The event discussed the issuance of BPOM Regulation No. 8/2020 on the Supervision of Drugs and Food that are Distributed Online. Chaired by Dra. Reri Indriani, Apt., M.Si (the Deputy for Supervision of Processed Food), the event specifically discussed the stipulation of Article 29, which prohibits the online distribution of alcoholic beverages.

In this occasion, representatives from the alcoholic beverages associations as well as EuroCham provided their inputs on the specific article. In view of the current condition, all industries have begun to further optimize the use of online distribution channels to ensure business continuity. Upon hearing the concerns and inputs from the associations, BPOM stated that they will discuss the matter further with the Ministry of Trade to review the stipulation of Article 29. Moreover, BPOM also stated that they will prepare an official statement to not implement Article 29 thereby allowing alcoholic beverages industries to be distributed online.

EuroCham supported a virtual event hosted by Global Indonesia Professionals’ Association (GIPA) on Saturday, 20 June 2020. Opening remarks was given by H.E. Mahendra Siregar, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, which was followed by a presentation by Mark Mobius, the Founder of Mobius Capital Partners LLP. Mark Mobius shared his views regarding the changing global order in the post Covid-19 world, as well as its impact to the investment landscape in the emerging markets and Indonesia. The overall discussion was moderated by Steven Marcelino as the Chairman of GIPA.
