INDEF-UNCTAD Gala Dinner

EuroCham is invited to the Gala Dinner jointly hosted by the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Gala Dinner was part of a joint workshop activities between INDEF and UNCTAD that was held on 27-28 November 2019. H.E. Mahendra Siregar, the Vice Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a keynote speech in the event to conclude the workshop. Followed by a presentation by UNCTAD on their research about enhancing structural transformation in developing countries to achieve 2030’s sustainable development plan by learning from China. UNCTAD studied about China’s experiences and acts on structural transformation to be shared to the developing countries, especially Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Ethiopia.

Indonesia Economy Projection 2020: New Cabinet and Recession Threat

On 26 November 2019, EuroCham was invited to the Annual Seminar on Indonesia Economy Projection organized by Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF). INDEF highlighted the potential risk of a global recession that may spread and impacted the Indonesia’s economy in 2020. INDEF Research Director Berly Martawardaya said that Indonesia’s economy is not immune from the effects of the global economic crisis. The slowing pace of economic growth in the last two quarters, indicates that the risk of recession can spread to the domestic market. Indonesia’s economic slowdown is still influenced by declining exports and investment. INDEF also predicts Indonesia’s economic growth in 2020 will reach 4.8 percent, slightly below this year. In addition, the continuing trade war between the United States and China also triggered the slow economy.
