Minister of Finance: Synergized Reforms in Tax, Customs and Excise

EuroCham attended the 71th commemoration of “Hari Oeang” (Money Day) that fall every 30 October to celebrate the issuance of the first emission of Oeang Republic Indonesia (ORI) as the country’s first national currency following its independence day in 1945. To celebrate, this year the Ministry of Finance organized a series of seminar, exhibition, and capacity building events on 18-26 October 2017.

The Minister of Finance, Ms. Sri Mulyani provided a keynote speech in one of these seminar that focused on the theme of Reformation Synergy in Tax, Customs and Excise. Ms. Sri Mulyani highlighted the important of cooperation between the Directorate General of Tax and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise as currently both are conducting reform efforts. Better cooperation between these directorate generals will make it easier for the public to comply with their tax and customs obligations, which will ultimately improve compliance and tax collection. Ms. Sri Mulyani also asked the business community to support the reform efforts by continuously providing inputs.

Mr. Heru Pambudi, the Director General of Customs and Excise, among other reform programs talked about the ongoing cooperation with the Directorate General of Tax which has allowed companies to use tax identification numbers as valid identification for customs purposes.
