Aiming to simplify the process for import licenses of forestry products, EuroCham initiated a meeting with Mr. Putera Parthama (Director General of Sustainable Forest Management of Ministry of Environment and Forestry). Held on 29 August 2017, and attended by ASPERINDO representatives, the meeting revealed the current situation in which Ministry of Environment and Forestry is currently working together with the Ministry of Trade and the Customs and Excise to shift the current implementation of border supervision mechanism to post border supervision. Formal submission of inputs following this meeting will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to offer recommendations from the business perspectives.

For advocating the problems regarding iron and steel import, EuroCham met Mr. I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan (Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics Industries). Held on 24 August 2017 at Ministry of Industry Office, the meeting aimed to request acceleration of import process of iron or steel, alloy steel, and its derivatives conducted by EuroCham members. This effort was made due to delayed shipments or incoming shipments stuck at warehouses at the ports and airports.

During the meeting it is clarified that Ministry of Industry already made a commitment with the Ministry of Trade that companies from outside the targeted industries should be allowed to import iron and steel products up to 1 (one) ton without additional import licenses from the Ministry of Industry. EuroCham requested that this policy can be implemented immediately. In addition, EuroCham requests the Ministry of Industry to provide a clearer definition between the terms "port of loading" and "country of origin” to avoid multiple interpretation.

After this meeting, EuroCham received the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 63/M-DAG/PER/8/2017, which amends Regulation No. 82/M-DAG/PER/12/2016. In this latest revision, the government made several changes including: exemption for import less than 1 (one) metric ton, exemption for import using air freight valued up to USD 1,500 FOB, and elimination of requirement to secure "import explanation" (penjelasan impor) from Ministry of Trade.
