BKPM Dialogue on Future Of Direct Investment For Climate Action

On 21 December 2021, the Ministry of Investment/Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the Ministry of National Development Planning hosted a joint dialogue on the Future of Direct Investment for Climate Action. EuroCham in this opportunity was asked to support the event which discussed strategic issues related to sustainable direct investment policy and the response of global investors to climate change. The dialogue event was opened by Nurul Ichwan (Deputy for Economic Affairs) and a keynote speech from H.E Vincent Piket (Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam), who presented EU's stance in adopting net zero economy and boosting investment in green economy in Indonesia. The dialogue focused on three topics, namely Policy Responses for Sustainable Investment in Response to Climate Change; Global Business and Economics Response to Climate Change; and Leveraging Innovative Finance for Sustainable Direct Investment Agenda.

Representing EuroCham, Karyanto Wibowo (Head of the EuroCham Sustainable Development Working Group) highlighted the role of private sector in mitigating climate change and providing recommendation to build resilience in business community. Other invited speakers were Jiro Tominaga (Country Director for Indonesia, ADB), James Zhan (Director of Investment and Enterprise, UNCTAD), Lucia Karina (Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability, Coca-Cola), Holger Appler (Director of Siemens Indonesia), Ferdinand Maubrey (Head of Responsible Sourcing and Battery Supply Chain, Tesla), Donald Chan (Managing Director for Asia Pacific, CDP). The event was closed by a remark by Amalia Widyasanti (Deputy Minister for Investment and Planning).
