CSIS: EU-ASEAN Roundtable

Published on 2 January 2025

On November 19, EuroCham was honored to participate in an insightful roundtable discussion organized by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Indonesia and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) focusing on EU-ASEAN relations.

The session began with two thought-provoking presentations: Dewi Fortuna Anwar discussed "Does ASEAN Still Matter?" and Edmund Terence Gomez presented on "EU-ASEAN Economic Relations: Is the EU Falling Behind in Southeast Asia?". Additional perspectives were shared by Antoine Ripoll from the EU Delegation, Yose Rizal Damuri and Dandy Rafitrandi from CSIS, and Dr. Denis Suarsana from KAS, enriching the dialogue with their insights.

The discussions underscored a shared recognition of ASEAN's enduring relevance despite the challenges it has faced. There was a consensus that the EU-ASEAN partnership must be strengthened and intensified to remain impactful. One key recommendation was to promote increased dialogue among think tanks, governments, and stakeholders from both regions to foster mutual understanding and collaboration.
