Dialogue on Regulatory Policy Exchange: EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

Published on 11 June 2024

On May 29, EuroCham Indonesia collaborated with the European Union Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam to organize a seminar on The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and Its Implications for the Private Sector in Indonesia. The seminar aimed to provide businesses in Indonesia and the surrounding region with a comprehensive and actionable understanding of CBAM, including its requirements and necessary preparatory measures. The event was held in a hybrid format at Kempinski Grand Ballroom in Jakarta and online through Zoom.

The event started with opening remarks from H.E denis chaibi (EU Ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam) and Gustaaf Reerink (Executive Board Member of EuroCham). The seminar was then followed by a keynote presentation from Vicente Hurtado Roa (Head of Unit at the European Commission, Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union). This was followed by a panel discussion featuring Edo Mahendra (Special Advisor to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment), Shinta Kamdani (Chairwoman of Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO) and Coordinating Vice Chair III of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN)), Adinova Fauri (Researcher at Department of Economic Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Indonesia), Antonius Sanyojaya (Tax Partner at PwC Indonesia), and Henriette Færgemann (First Counsellor Delegation of the European Union to Indonesia). The panel was moderated by Agus Sari (CEO of Landscape Indonesia).

The event proved useful in fostering dialogue and collaboration on carbon policy and harmonizing efforts between Indonesia and the EU. We would like to thank the participants for attending and providing input. We hope to see you again in future events.
