Welcome
EBO ASEAN Joint Webinar: The EU Circular Economy Plan
On 20th October, EuroCham Singapore in collaboration with EuroCham Indonesia (EuroCham Indonesia (The European Business Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia)) organised a webinar on “The EU Circular Economy Action Plan: Insights and Significance for the Southeast Asian Region” with our esteemed guest speaker, Mrs Astrid Schomaker, Director for Global Sustainable Development at the European Commission's Directorate General for the Environment. Our Circular Economy Co-Chair, Mr Matthew Tan Ying Che (Pernod Ricard), led an engaging Q&A session attended by close to 100 online participants representing members, partners, and guests from across ASEAN and elsewhere. A big thank you to our EBOs ASEAN counterparts for reaching out to their members and creating a platform for this discussion.
Mrs Schomaker briefly touched upon the additional 35 actions of The New Circular Economy Action Plan (2020) looking across the entire life cycle of products. She stressed that circular is not only a good resilience policy but also the only way forward. The participants benefited by learning of EU Digital Product Passport (DPP), revised proposal for Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), the new restriction of intentionally added microplastics to consumer or professional use products (25 September 2023) and of the ongoing negotiations for the global agreement on plastic pollution. Lastly, she highlighted the joint EU-ASEAN initiative, ASEAN Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, plays a vital role in better understanding and greater adoption of circular economy practices in the region.
