Govt Finally Launched Halal Regulatory Body (BPJPH)

The long-awaited and much-anticipated Halal Regulatory Body (BPJPH) finally launched by the government on 11 October 2017. Mandated by Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal, BPJPH will play the function as the sole and official halal certification body, and therefore has the authority to award halal certificate. For its full operation, BPJPH will be led by Prof. Sukoso as the Head, and Mr. Ali Irfan as the Secretary.

BPJPH will collaborate with the Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) who issue the fatwa, and also with the Halal Audit Institution (LPH) who will conduct the halal audit and assessment to the halal certification applicants.

Minister of Religious Affairs Drs. H. Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said that BPJPH is expected to be fully operated earlier next year, upon the completion of implementing regulations.
