The 2nd Circular Economic Forum in Surabaya, 28 - 30 June 2018

EuroCham Indonesia attended the 2nd Circular Economy Forum held in Grand City Convex Surabaya from 28 to 30 June 2018. The event was held as part of Indo waste forum 2018 and was jointly organized by Waste for Change, Greeneration, Embassy of Denmark and PRAISE. Key speakers at the event including high level officials from Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, and National Development Planning Agency. Also notably speaking was H.E. Rasmus Abildgaard Kristense, Ambassador of Denmark to Indonesia.

The participants and speakers were coming from various background including NGOs, social entrepreneurs, communities, and six member companies of PRAISE as well as representatives from some other companies. Four among six members of PRAISE are members of EuroCham, they are Tetra Pak Indonesia, Danone Aqua, Unilever Indonesia, and Nestle. As front runners in circular economy practice, these four companies spoke about their companies’ values on circular economy approach and how the approach is adapted in Indonesia. 

The forum discussed some important topics related to circular economy such as law enforcement, future technologies and community empowerment. Circular economy approach offers an alternative way for resource management through expanding the life cycle and value of the materials. Hence, circular economy provide solution for inefficient use of resources that may result in scarcity of resources and negative impact on the environment. Understanding the importance to spread awareness on adopting the Circular Economy approach in Indonesian context, EuroCham is planning to further discuss the topic during the EU-Indonesia Business Dialogue 2018.
