Welcoming the PDP Law: Gaining Consumer Trust with Reliable Data Protection Regime

EuroCham, with the support of S. ASEAN International Advocacy & Consultancy (SAIAC, a member of EuroCham), successfully held a Data Protection Dialogue entitled, “Welcoming the PDP Law: Gaining Consumer Trust with a Reliable Data Protection Regime”, at the Pullman Thamrin Hotel on October 11, 2022. This event is part of EuroCham’s efforts to welcome the long-awaited Personal Data Protection Bill in Indonesia that was recently passed into law. The PDP is a significant advocacy milestone for EuroCham as it has long called for the issuance of this legislation. The dialogue commenced with opening remarks from the Vice Chairman of EuroCham, Wichard von Harrach, as well as from the Founder and CEO of SAIAC, Shaanti Shamdasani. This was followed by a keynote speech by Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate, on insights into the Personal Data Protection Law’s impact on businesses.

The discussion, which was moderated by Ardi Sutedja (Chairman of the Indonesia Cyber Security Forum), included industry experts comprised of, Adhika Wiyoso (Associate Partner of HHP Law Firm), Minn Tun (CEO of Bhumi Varta Technology), and Rofi Uddarojat (Head of Public Policy & Government Relations of the Indonesia E-Commerce Association). Following the panel discussion, the audience was provided with the opportunity to convey questions to the panelists and the event concluded with networking and lunch.
