Ericsson Launches 5G RAN Slicing to Spur 5G Business Growth

Published on 10 February 2021

Ericsson launched a 5G network slicing solution for radio access networks (RAN), enabling communications service providers to provide customized 5G services with guaranteed performance. Ericsson 5G RAN Slicing is now commercially available, will allocate radio resources at 1 millisecond scheduling and support multi-dimensional services with different handling across multiple slices. This will strengthen end-to-end slicing capabilities for dynamic resource management and organization that ensures the high-quality user experience required by a wide variety of use cases. Network slicing supports multiple logical networks to deliver different types of services over a common infrastructure. Network slicing is an opportunity for 5G revenue, such as enhanced video and in-car connectivity, as well as extended reality (a combination of virtual reality [VR], augmented reality [AR] and mixed reality [MR]).

The Ericsson report estimates service provider revenue opportunities in the consumer market of USD712 billion by 2030. Per Narvinger, Head of Product Area Networks Ericsson, said, "Ericsson 5G RAN Slicing dynamically optimizes radio resources to deliver spectrum-efficient radio access network slicing features. What makes our solution different is that it improves management. end-to-end and regulatory support for fast and efficient delivery services. This technology provides service providers with the differentiation and guaranteed performance needed to monetize 5G investments in a variety of use cases. With 5G as an innovation platform, we continue to provide added value to our customers .
