Frisian Flag Indonesia is Committed to Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
In commemoration of World Forest Day, which is a moment to raise awareness for the environment again, Frisian Flag Indonesia (FFI) reaffirms its commitment to continue to run a sustainable and environmentally friendly business for a more harmonious earth. Not moving alone, FFI also invites community involvement to #MelajuKuatBersama, to build a better future. Frisian Flag Indonesia's Corporate Affairs Director, Andrew F. Saputro said, “Frisian Flag Indonesia has a mission not only to assist Indonesian families to live healthier and more prosperous lives, but also to create a harmonious environment. This commitment is reflected in the various initiatives that we present, as well as how we run a sustainable and environmentally friendly business. In this moment of World Forest Day, FRISIAN FLAG confirmed its commitment to take various green steps in the production chain including supporting the reduction of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Index and until 2021, FFI has succeeded in reducing its Greenhouse Gas Emissions Index by up to 38%. Through saving efforts and breakthroughs in several fields, FRISIAN FLAG hopes to contribute to environmental harmony, maintaining energy sustainability and preserving the earth in the future.”
FFI's ongoing commitment in Indonesia is in line with that of a global corporation, FrieslandCampina. On the upstream side, regarding the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, FrieslandCampina is committed to reducing one third of its carbon emissions by 2030 (compared to 2015). While on the downstream side regarding waste management, 95% of FrieslandCampina's factories worldwide, including FFI, are considered to have managed their waste well. In early 2022, FFI also started the Zero Landfill program to reduce waste disposal to landfill. The program carried out in the form of cooperation in processing solid waste residues with partners to be reused, for example as building materials, this program succeeded in reducing waste disposal to landfill, from 64% in 2021 to 13% in 2022.
FFI's seriousness in preserving the environment is also manifested through energy and water efficiency programs, as well as proving its commitment to comply with 100% compliance with environmental regulations implemented in Indonesia. As a result, every year, FFI manages to save electricity consumption of up to 1.5 million Kwh (2017-2021), or equivalent to meeting the energy needs of 1,370 people* every day and for water, as much as 42,778m³ of water (2017 -2021) has been saved. At the end of the production chain, Frisian Flag Indonesia also began to make some changes to the packaging of its products. By 2021, 84% of all packaging for Frisian Flag Indonesia products can be recycled. It is targeted that by 2025, this value can reach 100%, one of which is also through the reduction of plastic waste. FFI has begun to apply the use of paper straws to its flagship low-fat UHT ready-to-drink liquid milk product since 2021.
