Launching of EuroCham Position Paper 2019

As part of an ongoing effort to support European business in Indonesia and the Indonesian Government, EuroCham launched its Annual Position Papers on 29 April 2019. This year, EuroCham publishes a series of 17 position papers which consists of general observations and recommendations offered by EuroCham member companies. These papers cover various sectors and priority topics such as: Halal Law; Energy; Intellectual Property; Transport and Logistics; Agriculture, Food and Beverage; Import Export Procedures; Cosmetics; Tobacco; Chemical; Retail; Pharmaceutical and Medical Technology; Finance, Tax, and Investment; Human Resources; Plastic Excise; Automotive; and Technology.

Mr. Mark Magee, the Chairman of EuroCham Indonesia, in his opening speech truly hoped that the recommendations captured in the Position Papers can become a reference to be considered by the policy makers for further improvement and development in this era of industry 4.0. H.E. Vincent Guerend, EU Ambassador for Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, congratulated on the launch of EuroCham Position Papers, and hoped that the paper will contribute in improving regulatory framework and create a better business climate in Indonesia. Ms. Lis Sutjiati, Special Advisory Staff to Minister of Communications and Informations presented a keynote on the government’s plan on the digital economy in Indonesia.

The panel discussion elaborate the topic of Transitioning to Indonesia 4.0, and invited as speakers Nurul Ichwan (Director of Services and Economic Zone, BKPM), Teddy Caster Siantury (Head of Center of Green Industry, Ministry of Industry), Corine Tap (Vice Chairman of EuroCham Indonesia and President Director of Danone Aqua), Andreas Diantoro (Managing Director, SAP Indonesia), and Raimund Klein (Executive Vice President of Digital Industries, Siemens ASEAN). The overall discussion was moderated by Doni Wibisono Wiroto (Head of EuroCham Agriculture, Food and Beverages Working Group and Public Affairs Manager of Frisian Flag Indonesia).

Policy Meeting on Draft Decree on Foreign Worker Positive List

On 12 April 2019, EuroCham was invited by the Vice President’s Office along with other International Chambers of Commerce to jointly discuss policy framework on Foreign Worker issues. In the meeting was attended by Vice President Chief of expert team, Mr. Sofjan Wanandi, accompanied by Mrs. Shinta Wijaya Kamdani, and Special Staffs of Vice President for Economic and Finance, Mr. Wijayanto Samirin. Representing the Ministry of Manpower was Mr. Maruli Hasoloan as the Director General of Development and Employment Placement.

Through this meeting, the government is responding to recommendations already submitted to Ministry of Manpower by EuroCham jointly with other foreign chambers in Indonesia. The specific recommendations are regarding the plan of the Ministry of Manpower to develop a draft decree on positive list of positions available for foreign workers. Other international chambers who submitted inputs and participated in this meeting were AmCham, BritCham, EKONID, EuroCham, IABC, IBAI, ICCC, Jetro, JJC, and US-ABC. All international chambers acknowledged the efforts done by the government to facilitate an open discussion prior the issuance of the Ministerial Decree.
