Meeting with the Director General of Domestics Trade of the Ministry of Trade

On 5 April 2022, EuroCham had the opportunity to meet with Oke Nurwan, the Director General of Domestic Trade of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, to discuss the implementation of the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 50 of 2020, mainly related to the requirements for registration of online trade business actors. The Ministry of Trade Regulation No. 50 of 2020 is very important for e-commerce business activities considering that it regulates trade licensing for trade actor in electronic system to ensure that the consumers’ rights are protected. This regulation is aligned also with the obligation that is mandated by Article 65 of Law No. 7 of 2014 on Trade Affairs that requires online merchants to provide data and information to the public completely and correctly. This requirement helps ensure that consumers acquire reliable information related to the merchant and goods sold electronically.

However, during this meeting the Ministry of Trade mentioned that there are some exemptions to the licensing requirements as stipulated by the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 50 of 2020 for informal businesses. During the meeting, EuroCham conveyed its appreciation to the Ministry of Trade that have tried to create transparency related to the registration of licenses for online merchants. However, further clarification is required in future relating to the interpretation that there is a distinction between requirements for formal and informal business forms. This meeting was attended by representatives from various EuroCham Working Groups, with Evi Tiana of Rouse Consulting as the appointed spokesperson from the Intellectual Property Working Group.

Socialization on Procedures for Submission and Determination of Origin of Imported Goods to be Imported

On 8 March 2022, the EuroCham attended a socialization event organized by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.  This event was intended to share information about the implementation of the Minister of Finance Regulation No. 07/PMK.04/2022 on procedures for submission of application and determination of origin of imported goods prior to submission of customs declaration.  This regulation was issued to facilitate service users and improve customs services related to the release of imported goods by accelerating the examination process of origin of goods in accordance with international practice.
