Bayer Indonesia Took Initiative to Support Indonesian Government in Combating COVID-19

Published on 13 April 2020

As COVID-19 is increasingly spreading, Bayer Indonesia has taken the initiative to help the Government of Indonesia to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the underprivileged area. Of the confirmed cases in country, 50% is in Jakarta and 45% of the residential areas in Jakarta are slums and densely populated with substandard living conditions. This is characterized by poorly ventilated housing which can worsen the condition of people with acute respiratory infections. Our assessment also found the residents to be using public shared washing room. The ability of the population to prevent infection is rather limited as well as seeing the doctor or going to the hospital for examination.

Therefore, Bayer Indonesia has decided to make a total donation of around IDR 1 billion, of which 70% as monetary donations and the remainder in the form of product donations. We have partnered with Mercy Corps Indonesia Foundation to roll out key programs which include: 1. community education program on healthy living; 2. donation of vitamin and analgesic products; and 3. construction of public hand washing facilities. These programs are prioritized for high-risk communities (elderly, those with underlying health conditions and pregnant women) in Penjaringan village, North Jakarta.

In addition, Bayer Indonesia also donated vitamin to government offices to help improve the immunity of employees in the high-risk segment who still have to do community service at the time of this pandemic. All the donations are carried out in the corridor outlined by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
