While everyone's focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change continues to be a reality that needs to be addressed. On 13 May 2020, together with the European Union, EuroCham just concluded the discussion on the EU Green Deal and the Relevance for Indonesian and European businesses. The event was attended by 175 participants from different countries. The overall webinar was moderated by the EU Ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Vincent Piket.

The first speaker, Diederik Samsom, Head of the Private Office of the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of the European Green Deal, shared his expertise on the EU Green Deal and how the continent should answer to the COVID-19 crisis by accelerating efforts towards climate neutrality and the relevance for the relations with Indonesia and the ASEAN region. Representing the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vice Chair Shinta Kamdani further highlighted the view of the Indonesian business community on the opportunities provided by the EU Green Deal. While representing EuroCham, Karyanto Wibowo, Head of Sustainable Development Working Group and Director for Sustainable Development at Danone Indonesia shared Danone’s and EuroCham member companies’ experience with Sustainable Development.

The session was concluded by closing remarks from the Chair of EuroCham, Corine Tap, who stressed that despite the current pandemic, Sustainable Development and the Circular Economy remains relevant, vital, and mutually beneficial.

On Wednesday 6 May 2020, the Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS) and EuroCham Indonesia held a joint webinar on Facilitating Economic Recovery post-COVID-19 through Trade Liberalisation. The webinar discussed on how Indonesia, domestically, and through various multilateral platforms could ensure economic recovery from the Covid 19 crisis by facilitating more trade activities and ensure supply chains. The session explores how Indonesia can accelerate recovery through free trade agreements and diverse global trading partners.

There were three distinguished speakers on this Webinar, namely Donna Gultom (Director of ASEAN Negotiation, Ministry of Trade), Rachmat Hidayat (Head of EuroCham Import-Export Procedures Working Group and Government Relations Director of Danone Indonesia), and Felippa Amanta (Researcher, Center for Indonesian Policy Studies). The event was joined by 110 participants.
