On June 8, 2026, the Directorate of Standardization of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements, and Cosmetics (OTSKK) of BPOM (Indonesia’s food and drug regulatory authority) held its annual Public Consultation Forum in a hybrid format. The event discussed the draft of the BPOM Regulation on the Supervision of the Importation of Drugs and Foods into Indonesian Territory. The draft is the 2nd revision of the current BPOM Regulation No. 27 of 2022 on the same title. The most significant change is the reduction of assessment time from 85 working days to a maximum of 10 working days. BPOM also launched PRIMA, a 24/7 AI‑powered consultation chatbot that replaces the previous manual WhatsApp service, and committed to expanding the positive list of permitted species, inviting academics and research institutions to propose new plants and animals.

New requirements for assessment applications include a statement letter affirming registration intent, attachment of prior consultation results from other BPOM units (if available), and additional safety data for cosmetic nanomaterials. A new assessment category for “new combinations” of existing ingredients was also introduced. Stakeholders from disability groups, academia, industry associations, and experts provided feedback, which BPOM committed to addressing by the fourth week of July 2026.

On the 4th of June, the Indonesian Soft Drink Industry Association (ASRIM) organised a multi-stakeholder press forum and industry discussion bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Ibu Merrijantij Punguan Pintaria, a macroeconomic policy expert from the Center of Reform on Economics Indonesia, Pak Muhammad Ishak Razak, and the director of ASRIM, Pak Triyono Prijosoesilo, along with members from the media. The session aimed to assess the performance of the agro-industrial sector – particularly the ready-to-drink packaged beverage industry – and to discuss the challenges and outlook for 2025–2026.
