National Seminar on Acceleration of Export through Innovation and Logistics Efficiency
EuroCham jointly with KADIN and Indonesia Exporters Associations (GPEI) organize a national trade seminar on 28 February 2019. The event is intended to support the acceleration of export of industrial products through efficiency of logistics and optimization of manufacturing industry-based export. Ms. Corine Tap, the Vice Chairman of EuroCham in her welcoming remarks appreciates openness of the government to participate in a constructive dialogue with the industry players to explore further possibilities for enhancement of competitiveness of the country’s export commodities. Mr. Benny Soetriesno as the Vice Chair of KADIN for Trade Affairs also provided opening remarks to highlight the urgency for the government to jointly work with the business community in boosting export.
Keynote speech was provided by Mr. Ngakan Timur Antara as the Head of Industry Research and Development Agency who presented the current state of play of Indonesia’s manufacturers as well as logistics performance in the era of Industry 4.0 transformation. In the first panel, Mr. Ari Satria as the Director for Export Product Development shared the Ministry of Trade programs to develop national export and analyzes which commodities and countries have become priority for development. Mr. Ardian Wicaksono, Director for Europe III also shared supports by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that have been conducted with other partner countries to open up new markets. Mr. Dendy Borman as the Corporate Affairs Director of Diageo also shared business perspectives on opportunities as well as challenges faced by the business in penetrating new markets by exporting. In this regard, the business still need certainty that raw materials can be procured to support production, even when it is not available locally.
The second panel started by a presentation from the Director General of Customs and Excise, Mr. Heru Pambudi about general simplification of procedures that has been done by Customs to boost more exports. In general, Ms. Ivon Dethan the Chief Commercial Officer of DB Schenker acknowledged what has been done by the government to optimize efficiency of the logistics sector, including the development of various hard infrastructure and facilities. In line with these, logistics players as well are innovating their services to become more efficient, and more than willing to share innovative solutions such as the usage of artificial intelligence to predict the fastest or most cost-efficient route for a certain shipment as it has been implemented by the private sector and can also be adopted by the Government in prioritizing the area of development for the future.
Energy Working Group Meeting
A regular group meeting was held by the Energy Working Group on 28 February 2019 to discuss policy updates in the Energy Sector and also to discuss upcoming group activities. More than 30 representatives of various member companies attended the meeting that invited guest speakers namely Claus Nielsen as the CEO of PT. EQTEC Energy Indonesia and Agus Kismanto from the Center for Fuel Technology and Design Engineering - Agency of Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) who shared information and exchange views on conversion of waste to valuable products (KDV Technology).
