Pharmaceutical and Medical Technology Working Group Meeting

EuroCham Pharma and Medtech Working Group bi-monthly meeting was hosted by PT B-Braun Medical Indonesia. Held on 19 July 2019, the meeting agenda included upcoming events, policy updates, and presentation by external speaker from the National Agency for Food and Drug Control (BPOM). Mr. Arief Dwi Putranto (Deputy Director of Information System, BPOM) shared the implementation of Regulation on 2D Barcodes for Drugs and Foods Supervision, reasoning behind the stipulations and urgency to overcome current challenges, such as globalization, e-commerce trade, and 4.0 industry by tracking and tracing via BPOM mobile application. He explained also the utilization method of 2D Barcodes for various categories of drugs, consisting of authentication and identification method.

As a second agenda, the meeting announced Laksmi Prasvita of Bayer Indonesia as the newly elected patron board for the working group. Following this announcement, the group discussed regular policy updates related with Patent Law, Compulsory License and E-Catalogue. The group also discussed upcoming events on 26 July 2019, when the group in collaboration with US-ASEAN Business Council held a focus group discussion on Government Procurement for Healthcare in the Era of JKN.

Cosmetics Policy Meeting with BPOM

The Cosmetics working group again engaged the National Agency for Food and Drug Control (BPOM) on 18 July 2019. BPOM in this meeting was represented by Mr. Tepy Usia, Director for Standardization of Traditional Medicine, Health Supplement, and Cosmetics who exchanged views with the group on activities that need to be taken as a follow up of the previous joint discussion on cosmetic claim. The meeting also intended to get updates on latest status of few draft regulations by BPOM. During the meeting, the working group acquire much needed information as well as clarifications regarding the implementation of 2D barcode in cosmetics products, halal and non-halal label, and contamination of cosmetics products. Few feedbacks are given by the group to BPOM and overall BPOM seems happy to receive feedback and recommendations from the working group.
